The Lu Silk Dragon and Phoenix Cultural Festival is a cultural event centered on Lu Silk culture, integrating traditional wedding customs, intangible cultural heritage techniques, and regional artistic characteristics. Having been held multiple times, it has become an important vehicle for inheriting and promoting China's outstanding traditional culture.
I. Origins: Exploration through Artistic Crossover (2015-2018)
May 2015: Jilier Lu Silk Group and Beijing Tree Art Museum jointly curated the "Silk Road" Lu Silk Art Exhibition. This marked the first use of silk as a medium for immersive art installations, pioneering a crossover model of "Intangible Cultural Heritage Technique + Contemporary Art." The exhibition attracted widespread participation from Beijing's cultural circles and the public, becoming a milestone event for the artistic expression of Lu Silk.
2018: The two parties collaborated again to launch the "Four Millennia" Lu Silk Installation Art Exhibition within the century-old weaving workshop of the Shanxi Lu Silk Group. Through the artistic reconstruction of production relics like looms and tools, they created what was then China's largest silk-themed installation exhibition, facilitating a dialogue between industrial heritage and contemporary aesthetics.
Cultural Value: These two museum collaborations broke the boundaries of traditional craft display, establishing deep connections between Lu Silk and public art and society at large, laying the foundation for the subsequent branding of the cultural festival.
II. Upgrade: Shaping the Branded Cultural Festival (2019-Present)
Building on the success of the art exhibitions, the Lu Silk Group focused on the "Dragon and Phoenix" cultural IP, launching a series of themed festivals:
"Dragon and Phoenix Bring Prosperity" Cultural Festival: Using traditional wedding customs as an entry point and combining them with the intangible cultural heritage techniques of Lu Silk weaving, it recreates the wedding culture scenes of Jin merchants from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
"Perfect Match" (Jin Yu Liang Yuan) Cultural Festival: Innovatively integrates new Chinese aesthetics, launching youth-oriented products like white wedding quilts, and promoting the fusion of traditional patterns with modern design.
Operational Effectiveness:
Cultural-Tourism Integration: Attracts over 100,000 tourists annually, establishing the Gaoping Lu Silk Cultural Park as a landmark cultural-tourism destination in southeastern Shanxi.
Industrial Extension: Through the "Cultural Experience + Product Exhibition and Sales" model, it drives the development of industrial chains related to wedding home textiles and cultural and creative peripheral products.
Model Innovation: Explores a sustainable local cultural development path characterized by "Revitalizing Intangible Heritage - Recreating Space - Brand Output."
III. Future Outlook
The Lu Silk Dragon and Phoenix Cultural Festival has now formed a development pattern driven by three core forces:
Cultural Cohesion: Rooted in six hundred years of Lu Silk craftsmanship, it continuously explores traditional cultural symbols like dragon and phoenix patterns and wedding rituals.
Artistic Creativity: Maintains cooperation with avant-garde art institutions, utilizing digital technology and cross-border curation to enhance cultural expressiveness.
Industrial Influence: Empowers the regional economy through the festival IP, contributing to the construction of the "Shanxi Silk Cultural Corridor" all-for-one tourism system.
Summary: Evolving from experimental art exhibitions to a branded cultural festival, the Lu Silk Group, through fifteen years of exploration, has successfully transformed a local intangible cultural heritage into a super IP possessing both cultural depth and market vitality, providing a "Gaoping Model" for the contemporary transformation of traditional crafts.
